Day-to-Day Doings
I read that somewhere. I wrote it down, and then I read it.

Jeers!!

Jeers to the new idea of "embedded" ads in tv shows.

I know product placement has been around forever, and that's fine. Just like real people, tv people need a soda, or a bag of chips, or box of cereal, what-have-you.

But twice in the past week I've noticed another type of product pushing. First was on a cable makeover/home type show. They had placed appliances in the kitchen, and BOTH families had to take time to explain one particular item they placed. Both by GE, and both got brand mention, a description of the item and how great it is, and a close up.

I was willing to let it slide because there is so much of that in those types of shows. They go to Ho*me Dep*ot, use the Dis*cover card to buy the lamp they need, whatever. I sort of take that like corporate underwriting, and it's not a drama or sitcom, it's a DIY show.

But tonight... well, it was CS*I: N*Y. Two of the guys were walking across a street and the cell phone of one rang. It was a song, and the other guys says "Cool, Coldp*lay?" and the cell phone guy says "Yeah, it's called Talk, and my girlfriend knows how to do that, I'll call her back later."

So, it has NOTHING to do with what's going on, it's clearly scripted in the show JUST to promote the song (along with a nice close up on the new Black*berry he's using). And I'm just sitting there thinking, that is sooooo lame! So I start typing this, and they go to commercial break... and voila! It's an actual ad to get the new Col*dplay rin*gtone.

Ugh... I'm not usually one for the whole "I'm fed up with this commercial crap!", but that REALLY got to me. To actually script out and have actors in a show sort of stop what they're doing and plug something like that??

They might as well just stop, look at the camera and say "When I'm knee deep in blood at a crime scene, I use Play*tex rubber gloves. They're not police issue, but they're the toughest things out there. If they work on crime scenes, imagine how much you'll love them when you're cleaning the bathroom!"... and back to action.

*shakes head*

Sunday, November 20

Hallo.

I had a very nice weekend! :) I actually took a little road trip down to Hartford and went to a BBW event down there. It was nice to just go and be social and hang out for a change, not to have to worry about people coming and going/watching the door, etc.

Heather, John, and I all went down, we went to a nice dinner (Thanks fatgirl :)), and then we went to the event and had a few too many drinks (picture update coming as proof, pretty silly pics, mostly just us and some other girls acting like morons), and today we grabbed some lunch before I hit the road to head home.

I forgot how much I enjoy just "going out", and thinking about events in way other than an obligation. I mean, I still go out to dinner, or movies, or just hang out with friends. But this was a nice change for dancing, and drinks, just goofing off, staying up late, a little diversion.

I have no big plans to mark my passing year tomorrow, just going to work, probably going to come home and make myself some soup. :) Guess I'm not really a party girl.

;)

Oh, and my shower head. It's freakin' fantastic. It's called Be*auty Wa*ter and it's sold at Se*phora, so you can check it out there if you're interested. It's easy to install, and it's made a huge difference in my hair. It's not green, but it's also super soft, and it actually improved my water pressure by quite a bit... so I'm glad to say I now have happy showers, not angry showers. Yay!

:)

Type casting.

Sooo, I just sort of had a moment of clarity about something. I have a "type" that I like, in men, but there are two really. And now, I think there are 3.

I have big crushes on two tv guys (not who you're thinking, although that one never goes away.... *sigh for T*y*).

They are here:
Mi*ke Ro*we from Dir*ty J*obs, and Hu*gh L*aurie from Hou*se.

I see a pattern here. Anyway, just something I figured I'd mention.

Green hair and ham.

Yeah, my hair has been turning green. It's not fun, I'll tell ya!

Since I moved to the new place, it's been picking up a green hue, and apparently it's due to the we*ll wat*er. I'm assuming it's high in copper or something, it turns everything green pretty fast, and it's not an algae type of look, it's a copper-green look. I picked up a specialized shampoo, but according to my "stylist" it's pretty harsh and stripping to your hair, so it's not the ideal fix long-term.

Sooooo, I had my hair colored up a bit darker (to cover up any of the hue that's accumulated)and I'm going to be installing a showerhead puri*fier thingy that's supposed to get rid of heavy metals and all that jazz. We'll see how it works out, it was rather expensive, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've got nothing on the ham front, but I thought it was worth a shot.
