Day-to-Day Doings
I read that somewhere. I wrote it down, and then I read it.

Crockp*ot Chowd*ah

Okay, I made a pretty good chicken and corn chowd. and I figured I'd share the recipe (Fuzzy asked me to).

I'm more of a dash of this, smidge of that cooker, so give it your best shot. This is just about right:

1 to 1.5 lbs of cubed, skinless, boneless white chicken meat (raw)
1 14ish oz. can of creamed corn
2 cups of frozen corn niblets
1 can of cream of potato soup (regular Camp*bells type soup can)
5 peeled clean new white potatos , medium sized... into manageable soupy sizes (you know, big enough to see, but sort of takes up a small soup spoon... chunky!)(or Maine, Prince Edward Island - probably NOT russets though, they break down too much in soups over time, you'd end up with very little spud)
2 cups of chicken broth
onions(I use only sweet onions), chopped or diced, however many you'd like (I usually use about one full ring, diced up)
some butter, again, use your imagination, maybe 2 tbsps to half a stick-ish

Put everything in the crockp*ot on low, cook for 8-11 hours on low, or until the potatoes are the consistency you'd like... I prefer "able to be mushed with spoon against side of crockpot" style.

About a half hour before you want to eat it, add in 1/2 to 1 cup of half and half, add salt and pepper to taste. That's it! :)

Let it cool!! I burned my tongue. :P

Sunday, November 28

From the "Fucking Unbelievable" file.

So... here's a nice little article on CNN (buried by the news I might add, apparently it was a small blurb for some, not even mentioned on my news) about how the CDC's horrific obesity mortality deaths are off by as much as 20%!!!

That's not a small amount. Apparently, after numerous articles and professionals saying their numbers were for shit because of the way the study was gathered and interpreted, they've finally figured out it's time to rework them.

Here is a link to the article on CNN.com

and here is the article that is there, in case you don't feel like clicking.

From CNN.com_______

Tuesday, November 23, 2004 Posted: 11:48 AM EST (1648 GMT)
CHICAGO (Reuters) -- A prominent study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may have overstated the number of obesity-related deaths in 2000 by as much as 20 percent, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

An analysis of the study, which was released in March and predicted that obesity would surpass tobacco as the leading cause of preventable death, found that mathematical errors may have inflated the 2000 death toll attributed to obesity by 80,000, the Journal said.

It sourced its report to CDC documents reviewed by the newspaper.

The CDC's chief of science, Dixie Snider, who is also leading the internal inquiry of the study, confirmed to the paper that the CDC will reduce the estimate of the number of deaths attributable to poor diet and lack of exercise, but he declined to say by how much, the paper said.

The study originally concluded that in 2000 there were nearly as many obesity-related deaths, at 400,000, as there were deaths related to tobacco use, at 435,000.

The CDC launched an internal review of the study after researchers criticized its methodology in letters published in the journal Science.

Snider told the paper the CDC would submit a correction to the Journal of the American Medical Association, which published the original study.

_____________

When the "flawed" report came out, it was front page news, feature reporting, 30 min segments on every news magazine on tv. When it's reported that it's gravely inaccurate and has overstated things, plus it's just BAD science, well... barely a peep.

Great.

Gobble, gobble, gobble

Turkey day is upon us once again in the states and it's time to give thanks. I don't make a huge deal of this holiday, and it's a very small gathering with family for me, but this year I didn't want to take a minute to be thankful.

I have wonderful friends, a caring and compassionate family who supports me but always makes me find my own way. My work is enjoyable, and sometimes enough to pay my bills... ha ha. There are worse things I could be doing, and more problems I could be having. I'm thankful that I'm not.

These are the details of life, and without them in check, things can get pretty difficult. I'm glad I have so much that is fundamentally good in my daily life. So many are not as fortunate, and that's what I think about at times like this.

Enjoy your families during this season, it's a good excuse to take the time. :)

On another, completely opposite, note... on UK ITV the program Ch*ubby Chas*ers has finally aired and so far the reviews are good from within the community. It seems it was handled fairly and without that side-show slant that sometimes happens. I was only minimally involved, and after editing I have no idea if there is even anything left that's noticeable. I'm just glad for my friends and associates who took the time and energy, and leap of faith, to become involved in this based on the hope that maybe just once it would be a fair slice of life into our little world. I have to commend the producers for staying true to their original plan. Good job on all fronts.

:)

Busy week?

It has been for me. I am so tired, and it is soooo late (as you can see). I'm trying to go to bed, but I had to do a download in hopes of fixing an email problem I'm having (friggen AOHell... grrrr). I just don't need this at this hour. Worst part is I can't even be sure it's my problem. I'm getting a warning when I launch the program, but I'm also getting their ever-so-shitty "host can't repsond, try later" message... so I can't be sure which is the broken part.

Soooo, anyway, while I'm waiting, I figured I'd say hello. I don't have any big plans for the weekend, although Delaney is going to head down so we can play dress up and take some pictures. I will probably do something on Sunday (dinner out) or something (it's mah' bday, OLD). But no hoopla or anything, just something simple. I will celebrate with my family on Thursday at Thanksgiving.

Hmm... what else? Can't think of anything, my brain is toast.

I'll check in later.

Monday, November 15

Monday, Monday.

Hey there everyone. I had a nice weekend, how about you??

We had an event on Saturday, and despite snow during the day and FREEZING temps here in MA, we had a fun, playful crowd. It was a good time for all. I stayed at Heather's all weekend to hang out with them for a bit, and a friend we know came up from NJ, too.

On Sunday, it was BigCutie crazy picture day! We had the newest cutie Deeva over, along with upcoming cutie Jolie. I was also having Heather take a couple of picture sets for me for my opening (site may be open as soon as tomorrow! BigCutieAnnMarie

We all ran around being silly, taking pictures, and just getting to know each other a bit better. I must say, it was a fun and relaxing day for sure.

At night when the picture part was over, the four of us just sat around and talked, ended up having a late dinner, etc. Good stuff overall. I haven't just had a nice long social weekend in a while, and I must say I really enjoyed it.

I'm excited because this weekend my friend Delaney is coming down this way too, so I get to see someone again!! I'm such a social butterfly... LOL :)

I got to take Twink for a long ride this weekend while I headed out to see Heather, and I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Sunroof open, cruising right along and on the way home I even ran a "mechanical test of my spoiler" which deploys at 90mph. Hee hee. :) It worked just fine.

Well, I'm going to have myself a little piece of coconut cake before bed time. Have a good Tuesday everyone. :)

For Dems and Kerry people, pretty much.

If you voted for Bush or didn't vote, or whatever, this link is not intended for you. Of course you can look, but I don't expect you'll get anything from it.

For those of you who feel a little alone after this election, and like maybe you were the only one who's sorry about what occured, then here is a link for you to check out.

I'm hoping NOT to begin some huge "sides" discussion about the election, just to share that others are feeling the weight as well.

Rate Me, Seymour!!

Okay, I'm not that vicious, but I did just change my picture at the dreaded hoto*r*n*ot and since I have no rating, I'm out of cirulation. I can't believe how long I've had that stupid account. I get matches all the time, chat briefly with a few (always intersting), but actually ended up meeting one really nice guy (who of course lived 10 mins away and has since moved to CA... I swear, if I had a penny).

Anyway, if you get a minute to throw a rating up, I'd be oh so thankful. You don't have to give me anything high or whatever, just something to get the votes going.

Friday, November 5

Bah, enough already.

I don't have a way to close the subject below, but if you guys are done... you can stop now. Neither side will change the other, and at least for now, it's irrelevant.

We'll visit this again in about 3 years, k?

It's freezing here, I'm cuddling up with a blanket, some cats, and maybe a warm mug of tea. Winter is coming, you can feel it in the air.

Night folks.

Wednesday, November 3

To hope you are wrong.

I have never hoped so much that I am wrong about how I feel today.

I am sad, I feel defeated in a way that far surpasses any election totals, and I feel horror at the message we have sent to the rest of the world. No, I didn't send it myself, but as an American, I am going to be held responsible just as we all will be.

I worry about our role in the world, the kind of example we are, and the message we send to other people about what it really means to be free. I worry about a message that reads "us above all others." We live in a global society, and unless that message is modified to include some responsibility to the rest of the world, it's just not going to work.

I am watching my candidate concede, and I know he's doing the right thing. The country has spoken, and half of them don't like where we are and where we are headed.

My hope in moving forward is that our half is not forgotten, that the message is considered, and that maybe something has been learned from the divisive nature of this election. That the two extremes hashing everything out have somehow led to a greater middle ground where we can all head in order to move forward in the true American way.

Only history will tell the tale of where we go from now, but I hope that it proves me wrong on my feelings, and right on my hopes.
