Day-to-Day Doings I read that somewhere. I wrote it down, and then I read it.
Sunday, November 30
I'm overdue, sue me.
Yes, it's been a little bit since my last entry, and it was a busy little time. I had my birthday weekend, Thanksgiving, and now another weekend... oh my!
Birthday weekend. It was GREAT! I really can't recall a birthday in many, many years when I had such a nice time with so many good friends. Friday night I headed down to Heather's house and Missy, Heather and I went out to dinner... just a nice ol', comfort food meal, it was fun. We went home, goofed around, and hit the sack. We were up at a decent hour on Saturday, did some things around Heather's house, and eventually got around to getting ready to head out for the dance.
Now things get interesting. We got to Maxine's (where the dance was being held) and my CA friend, Marco called me to say Happy Birthday and we chatted a bit as I walked inside. Well standing inside the door was Marco! What a great surprise. Heather and he cooked it all up and surprised me with a whole person! That was pretty neat, I must say. I hadn't seen him since August in CA, so it was soooo nice to see him and spend time. So, as a bonus, I got the night off on Saturday and got to hang out with all my friends (Sophie, Heather, Pey, Marco, Missy and more). It was a fun night. I was really beat by the end of it.
We crashed at Heather's house, and got up Sunday, hung around a bit, then headed out to lunch - for me! It was Sophie and Doreen, Missy, Heather and John, Marco, Pey and Greg, Deidra and Stephen. It was a very nice lunch, but only made better by all the good company. I got some great presents, too! :) Thank you to everyone for all the nice thoughts and gifts.
After eating, Heather, John, Marco and I headed down to Mohegan Sun for the night. We spent hours gambling and wandering around (well, Heather and I scooted around.... makes it so much damn easier in that place). We hit a bunch of slots, and we all did well at first... so that was nice. We played some table games but not too much... just a bit here and there. Around 2:30 Heather and John headed home, and Marco and I called it a night. I could have kept playing easily, but I figured it was best to stay controlled and within reasonable losses. :)
Marco headed home on Monday, and it sucked... hate airport goodbyes. It's always hard when people live far away... but I guess that's just part of the world we live in. It makes us able to know people we'd never know otherwise, and the distance just goes along with it all. I think in the long run it's worth it, considering the wonderful people it can bring into your life that you'd never have met.
Soooo, I got home Monday night and my mother was here waiting for me - with TWO KITTENS!!! Eeek. Honestly, that was my reaction... what the hell?? I just got rid of Darla, and here are two 14 week old kittens (brothers). So it's been about a week, and they are adjusting slowly but surely. They come out and play and goof around, they are very attached to each other. They don't have names yet... but we're working on it. They are certainly not what I was thinking of for the next pet step, but they're good boys, and I think we'll all be just fine.
Here they are....
Thanksgiving was super lowkey for me, just dropped by mom and dad's for a bite and headed home for a while to hang with the boys (kitties, that is). It's been a quiet weekend beyond that, just did some work, and lots more to do this week. Off I go, have a nice one!! :)
Whew, this cold is a whopper. I'm getting better, and have been on meds for week. Definately today is the best day since last week, and I'm glad for that!
I have a bunch of work to get done this week, but if I do... my great reward is a weekend of leisure with my friends. I must admit, that's keeping me motivated. Game plan is to head down to Heathers on Friday (my bday!!), I'm going to stay there Fri and Sat, and we're heading to the dance on Saturday night.
On Sunday I'm going to a nice lunch with friends as a little bday gathering, so that will be nice too. I think Heather, John and I are going to head down to Mohegan Sun on Sunday night to waste some money (no, I mean win some money...yes, that's what I meant!!).
Soooo, I'm looking forward to it... I'm hoping that the cold has subsided enough for me to enjoy myself and not be coughing up a lung through most of it (nice image, huh?? Now there's a picture of the week!)
I'm sick!!!! Waaahh. I got some kind of nasty cold going on here, head, throat, moving to chest, fever, face hurts (sinus pressure is best guess). Yuck and miserable, just about all there is to say.
Darla has gone back to her shelter of origin. I've been struggling with all this in the background, and not sharing it much here because I know it's sort of 1) boring to listen to, and 2) hard for some people to understand. Basically, I wanted nothing more than for this to work out and have a kitty in my house again. Instead I just ended up with a cat in my house that has no trust of people (and not just me, we tried others), and no desire to work on that. She made a few attempts to hang out, but over the course of 6 months, I can count those attempts on one hand. I am looking for more than that, and I just wasn't happy. I think she was as happy as she will be in any home, and hopefully now she'll find a new adoptive mom/dad who wants a cat like her - one they will never see.
So, the project now is to get my home back in pre-Darla condition, clean the carpets up from her various sick times, and revisit the kitty issue a bit later. I will probably opt to get a new kitten, maybe even a Persian again, when I try again.
Soooo, that's that... my Sudafed is working, thank GOD.... I was really thinkin there would be no relief. While I'm feeling a bit lucid I'm going to try to eat some dinner.
Bye for now, folks. Ohhh, I have a new page for movies on the site, and there is one posted now if you'd care to look.... click here and follow the download instructions. Thanks!
Have you seen this show? I love it... it motivates me to throw out almost everything I own. In my last few moves, I've reduced the amount of crap I have by leaps and bounds. There are always things left though, and things accumulating over time so it all starts creeping back.
Tonight I decided to capitalize on some free time and went through two drawers of stuff, filed financial things, and emptied an old file keeper to make room for current materials. In the course of emptying out the old things, I found some things that made me realize how far I'd come personally - and even was able to assign a date to most of it. I found my intinerary from going on the Gordon Elliot show in NY... that was weird. I didn't even know I had kept any of that stuff. I was there on Jan 19, 1995. I can't believe it's been that long, but in some ways it seems like it was 20 years ago. I feel so far removed from the person I was, but know that the journey has taken place in a relatively short time.
I was lucky to have confidence in so many other areas of my life, it was a shorter journey to accepting myself physically than some have to traverse. I had friends, was active in school groups, was confident in who I am as a person... so getting that last piece together was just like finishing the puzzle. But it still took years, and goes on even now to some extent.
Sooooo, anyway, it was nice to see those paper mementos of way back when - which also happened to be when I met Miss Heather, so we're closing in on 10 years - yikes!
So, my small start at clean sweeping brought me to another little place for a while. But the best part is getting rid of all that CRAP!!! Next big place to tackle is the spare room!! I'm going to have to enlist help for that task, it's going to take some doing. :)
Hello everyone... :) Happy belated Halloween to all you readers out there. I did NOTHING on Halloween, even went so far as to sit in the dark and not pass out candy. I didn't get egged or tp'ed either, so that's a good thing. I actually didn't even hear any kiddies out there, so I don't think they come to the area where I live.
Saturday night I went out for dinner with someone I know from online who was visiting the area. We went to Legal Seafoods, and although I'm not a seafood fan... it was really good! I had some chowder, fish and chips and a nice dessert. They lost points for not having regular ol' tea (only the fancy stuff), but overall... very nice meal, good service. I recommend calling in advance for either reservations or to put your name on the list, we waited quite a while to be seated (I called in, wait time total was about 1 hour 40 mins). It was a nice evening, and certainly a good way to kill a Saturday night.
Well, my travels online brought me to Theresa Strasser's site, and if you don't know who she is... it doesn't really matter. But I read this week's syndicated column where she discusses the myth of nice guys and how women don't really want nice guys. I think it's a valuable read for guys out there who think women don't like nice guys. I LOVE nice guys. It doesn't take much to make me happy. Even the attempt to open a door is good stuff. I don't expect it, it's all icing on the cake. I enjoy gentleman, and frankly, it's so rare these days that if you're a guy who IS a gentleman... play it up!! You have no idea how appreciated it is. If you're interested in the article, it is here and it's called That's Nice (in case a new one has already been posted, you can find the past issues below). She's not wrong, a Chocodile (or whatever it may be for that particular girl) will get you more mileage than you can imagine. :)
